I recently found myself in possession of a 4GB Cruzer Micro left over from a project at work, and found myself pulling together a loose web of portable apps to fill its modest capacity…though compared to my previous 256MB thumb drive, it might as well be a freight container. However, it wasn’t too long before I came across a post on Lifehacker that reminded me about a better way to set up a portable platform.
If you’re already a reader of Lifehacker, then you’re no stranger to the wonderful world of PortableApps. With a good selection of software that can be downloaded and used nigh seamlessly even on systems where you don’t have administrative controls, I’ve fallen in love with this platform. Anything that lets me convert any measurement I could possibly need to and lets me play knock-off rhythm games at work (only during lunch, of course!) is a winner by my reckoning.
Now I’m looking for a Linux distro to throw on there…
